Less Minnesota goodbye, more hello.

Minnesotans can spend half an hour saying goodbye at the door and still never say hi to a stranger. YesTonite fixes the second part: see who's out tonight, send one message, meet. Free, 18+.

Minneapolis, warmer than it looks

Minnesota Nice is real: people are friendly, helpful and great at small talk, and still a little hard to get to know if you didn't go to high school with them. Nobody walks across a bar to say hi. And then there's the Minnesota goodbye, the farewell at the door that never quite ends.

The city makes up for it. Summer lives outdoors, with lake evenings around Bde Maka Ska, patios and rooftops, light until late. Winter doesn't keep anyone home, it just moves them inside: taprooms in Northeast, music rooms on Hennepin, bars linked by the downtown skyways.

YesTonite is the shortcut: see who's out tonight, send one friendly message, and meet at a taproom in Northeast or a bar in the North Loop. The goodbye can still take as long as you like.

Friday and Saturday are the big nights, and summer weeknights keep every patio busy. Minnesota bars serve until 2 a.m.

Where Minneapolis goes out

  • North LoopOld warehouses turned into restaurants, cocktail bars and rooftops.
  • NortheastTaprooms, art studios and neighborhood bars, the heart of the brewery scene.
  • Uptown & Lyn-LakeBars and live music near the Chain of Lakes, popular with a younger crowd.
  • DowntownHennepin Avenue's theaters and music venues, plus the Warehouse District bars.
  • Eat StreetNicollet Avenue's long row of restaurants from around the world.

How it works: three steps.

  1. Say you're out

Switch on "out tonight" and you get a green dot. It turns off by itself in the morning.

  2. Send one message

See a photo and an age, say something, and the chat opens for both of you. No matching first.

  3. Meet tonight

Pick a place, or join an event nearby. Same evening, not three weeks of small talk.

Events anyone can host

Anyone 18+ can host an event on YesTonite: a walk around Bde Maka Ska, a brewery hop in Northeast, a winter skating night, trivia when it's too cold for anything else. Join open events right away; for closed ones you request a spot, and only confirmed guests see the address.

For local creators and venues
