out tonight

Austin, after the heat breaks

From spring to fall, the bats under the Congress Avenue Bridge pour out over Lady Bird Lake at dusk, and Austin isn't far behind them. In summer the night starts when the heat finally lets go: happy hour on a patio with misters, a band on Red River, two-stepping at a dance hall, tacos from a trailer before you head home.

Here's the Austin catch. So many people are new in town, everyone is friendly, and "we should hang out sometime" almost never makes it onto a calendar. The apps don't help when every other profile is in town for a bachelorette weekend or a festival. YesTonite only cares about tonight: switch on "out tonight", see who nearby is heading out, send one message, and turn "sometime" into a patio by eight.

March brings SXSW, October brings ACL Fest to Zilker Park, and those weeks the whole city fills up. The rest of the year belongs to locals: Tuesday trivia, a Sunday swim at Barton Springs, a show on a Wednesday because live music here doesn't wait for the weekend.

Thursday through Saturday are the big nights, and in summer plans rarely start before sundown. Texas bars serve until 2 a.m., and late-night tacos are the traditional last stop.

How it works: three steps.

  1. Say you're out

Switch on "out tonight" and you get a green dot. It turns off by itself in the morning.

  2. Send one message

See a photo and an age, say something, and the chat opens for both of you. No matching first.

  3. Meet tonight

Pick a place, or join an event nearby. Same evening, not three weeks of small talk.

Events anyone can host

Anyone 18+ can host an event on YesTonite. Austin ideas: a two-step lesson for beginners, a sunset walk on the Lady Bird Lake trail, Tuesday trivia, a group headed to a show on Red River. Join open events right away; for closed ones you request a spot, and the exact address unlocks once you're in.

Questions, answered

Is YesTonite really launching in Austin?

Yes. Austin is one of our two launch cities, so it's early days and the community is growing. Everyone you see is a real member who chose to show up; we never invent profiles or numbers.

I'm only in town for SXSW or ACL. Can I use it?

Sure. Switch on "out tonight" wherever you're staying and see who's out nearby, locals included. They know the quieter spots during festival weeks, so ask.

Does YesTonite run background checks?

No. We don't run criminal background checks on members, so keep the usual habits: chat first, meet somewhere public and busy, get there on your own and tell a friend where you're going. Our safety page has more tips.

What's free?

Signing up, your profile, browsing, a number of new chats every day and every reply. More chats and a plan to hide your profile are optional.

Sometime is tonight.

Free to join, 18+, everyone welcome. Your first message opens the chat, and your name stays hidden until you share it.
