Going out with no closing time

Berlin has no official closing time, and that is exactly the problem: the night could always go somewhere else, so nobody commits. People meet “sometime after ten”, say “I’ll text you” and end up with three half plans and not one whole one.

Yet the city is made for spontaneous evenings. A beer for the road from the Späti (the corner shop), a neighbourhood Kneipe (a classic local pub), the banks of the Landwehrkanal in summer. Kreuzberg and Neukölln lean towards pubs and backyards, Friedrichshain is louder, Mitte smarter, Prenzlauer Berg quieter.
