Going out at water level

Along the Oudegracht lie wharves, one level below the street, where the old cellars are now cafés and terraces. You won't find that in any other city. On a summer evening you sit there with your feet almost in the water and the Dom tower above you.

The city centre is compact, you cycle everywhere in no time, and with so many students it is lively during the week too. The downside of such a manageable city: you keep running into the same people, and in a packed café you rarely talk to the ones you don't know yet.
