In Krakow, plenty of evenings begin in a cellar. Beneath the Main Square and in the old townhouses of Kazimierz hide vaulted bars you reach down narrow stairs, and one bar easily leads to the next.

At weekends the Main Square belongs to tourists and stag parties, so locals tend to pick Kazimierz, Podgórze or the bars along Starowiślna. It's also a student city, so nightlife isn't just a weekend thing. Everything is close together, most routes are walkable, and a zapiekanka from Plac Nowy at midnight is a local classic.
