After work, pre-drinks and then?

A Stockholm night often starts with after-work drinks (AW) straight from the office, moves on to pre-drinks at someone's place and only lands in Södermalm or around Stureplan after eleven. The city is built on islands, and the evening likes to change island along the way: from the cellar bars of Gamla stan to Medborgarplatsen and on to Hornstull.

The hard part is rarely finding a place, it is talking to someone new. Stockholmers have a reputation for being a little reserved, and calendars are full weeks ahead. In summer things loosen up: light evenings, outdoor terraces and quays full of people. In winter it is dark by three, and then you need a really good reason to go out.
