In summer Nice belongs to visitors: the Promenade des Anglais is packed, the terraces of Cours Saleya are full, and on dating apps many profiles are only around for a week. Locals know the city is even nicer out of season.

The evening often starts on the pebble beach, with an apéro facing the sea and a slice of socca (the local chickpea pancake), then heads up into the lanes of Vieux-Nice, Place Garibaldi or the port. Evenings stay mild for much of the year, and people still sit outside long after summer.
