Brno after dark

Brno is a city of students and bars. An evening here most often starts on Jakubák, where on warm days people stand outside the bars with a drink, and carries on along Veveří, to Zelňák or into the small bars in the surrounding streets. Everything is close and walkable, and where your feet won't take you, the tram (the šalina, as locals call it) will.

Students often head home to their families on Fridays, so the big nights come on Wednesday and Thursday. In summer people go out to Prýgl, the reservoir, watch the sunset over the city from Kraví hora, and when the Ignis Brunensis fireworks go off over the reservoir, all of Brno is outside.

During term Wednesdays and Thursdays are the biggest nights; at weekends the city is quieter, but the bars in the centre keep going. People head out around nine and finish long after midnight.
