Zurich thaws over an apéro
Zurich is polite, punctual and fairly reserved. On the tram people look at their phones, in a bar they stick to their own group, and newcomers often hear that it takes years to really get to know the locals.
After work, things loosen up. The evening starts with an apéro, the after-work drink; in summer it happens outdoors by the lake, along the Limmat or at a Badi, an open-air swimming spot that turns into a bar in the evening. After that the city spreads out: to Langstrasse, to the old industrial halls of Zurich West or into the narrow lanes of the Niederdorf.
