Belgrade doesn't do early nights

Belgrade goes out late and stays out long. An evening often starts with a coffee that lasts for hours, carries on in Dorćol, along Strahinjića bana or around Savamala, and ends on the river clubs of the Sava and the Danube when it's already light. Skadarlija is for a kafana night with tamburica players, and the Zemun quay for a walk by the river.

The problem is rarely where to go; it's getting from "sure, let's talk soon" to an actual coffee. Plans get made in group chats and pushed to a weekend that never comes. In summer half the city escapes to Ada, and Novi Sad has its own rhythm: Laze Telečkog for going out, Štrand for summer and Petrovaradin Fortress for sunset over the Danube.
