The student city on the Nidelva

Trondheim is a student city, and you can tell: it is lively midweek too, and many nights start with pre-drinks in a shared flat before heading down to Midtbyen. Across the Old Town Bridge lies Bakklandet with wooden houses, cafés and small bars, and at Solsiden the terraces along the water fill up as soon as the sun peeks out.

Every other year the student festival UKA takes over the city in autumn, and at the end of July Olavsfest gathers people around Nidaros Cathedral. Winter is long and dark, but people here go out anyway, often after a ski trip in Bymarka.
