Pest parties, Buda talks

Budapest nightlife was made famous by its ruin bars: slightly chaotic places set up in the courtyards of old apartment blocks in District VII, and they're still packed at weekends. The party district, though, often has more tourists and stag parties than locals, so people from Pest tend to end up on Ráday utca or in Újlipótváros, and people from Buda on Bartók Béla út.

In summer the Danube banks and Margaret Island are where everyone meets, the whole city buzzes during Sziget in August, and evenings on the terraces pass over a fröccs, the local wine spritzer. In winter a good reason to get out helps: a concert, a quiz night or mulled wine at the Christmas market.
