On two wheels through the night

In Copenhagen people cycle into town, and the evening often moves on two wheels: a beer by the canal, dinner in Vesterbro, on to Kødbyen and maybe Nørrebro afterwards. Weekends go to bed late, and many places only fill up after midnight.

The hard part is rarely finding a place, it is talking to someone new. Danes are friendly but seldom talk to strangers without a good reason, and many nights end with the same group of friends as always. In summer the city opens up: harbour baths, Islands Brygge and pavement terraces, and when Distortion fills the streets in early June the whole city is one big party. In winter it is Friday bars, Christmas lunches and old bodegas that keep things warm.
