Špica, fjaka and long nights

In Zagreb everything starts with coffee. The Saturday špica, the see-and-be-seen coffee hour around Cvjetni trg and Bogovićeva, brings half the city out onto the terraces, and in the evening the crowd moves on to Tkalčićeva, the Upper Town or, in summer, Jarun. In winter, Advent turns the centre into one big open-air get-together, with mulled wine on every corner.

In summer, life moves to the coast. The Riva in Split and the lanes of Diocletian's Palace stay busy until late, on Bačvice beach people play picigin, a splashy ball game in the shallows, until dark, and in Zadar the sunset is watched by the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun. Dalmatian fjaka, the fine art of doing nothing, is for the daytime; at night people go out, and late.

YesTonite fits exactly these evenings: switch on "out tonight", see who else is out, and agree on where to meet. Your name only shows once you decide to share it in the chat.

In Zagreb, Friday and Saturday are the main nights, and people go out late, rarely before 10 pm. On the coast in summer there's hardly any difference between a weekday and the weekend.

Where people go out

  • TkalčićevaAn old Zagreb street below the Upper Town, full of cafés and bars, lively every night.
  • Cvjetni trgThe heart of the Saturday špica in central Zagreb, with terraces on every side.
  • JarunA lake in southwest Zagreb: swimming by day, and on summer nights going out by the water.
  • Riva, SplitSplit's seafront promenade, busy until late in summer, with bars in the palace lanes behind it.
  • Bačvice, SplitThe city beach where picigin is played by day and people go out by the sea at night.
  • Riva, ZadarThe Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun: the best sunset in town, then bars in the old town.

How it works: three steps.

  1. Say you're out

Switch on "out tonight" and you get a green dot. It turns off by itself in the morning.

  2. Send one message

See a photo and an age, say something, and the chat opens for both of you. No matching first.

  3. Meet tonight

Pick a place, or join an event nearby. Same evening, not three weeks of small talk.

Events anyone can host

Got an idea for a quiz in central Zagreb or a sunset on the Zadar seafront? On YesTonite anyone 18 or over can host an event: a board game night, picigin at Bačvice, a run around Jarun or a walk through Advent. Open ones you join straight away; for closed ones you request a spot, and the address stays private until you're in.

For local creators and venues
