The evening starts slowly

In Bulgaria the evening starts slowly: a shopska salad, a glass of rakia and a conversation that stretches towards midnight. In Sofia people then head out along Shishman and around Vitoshka, and students have a whole district to themselves, Studentski Grad, where the party keeps going even midweek.

Plovdiv lives in Kapana, the creative quarter of small bars and lanes full of people, and the sunset is watched from the city's hills. Varna is the capital of the sea: in summer evenings are spent in the Sea Garden and along the seafront promenade, and from June to September half of Sofia seems to move to the coast. Winter is for long evenings in a mehana and for the mountains.
